| Job Summary: |
This is journey level construction, repair, and remodeling carpentry work at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison Physical Plant. The work is performed
under the general supervision of a Craftsworker Supervisor. The University of Wisconsin Physical Plant is committed to the highest standard of customer relation's principles for its customers, fellow staff members, students, and visitors. Staff will serve as role models by practicing exemplary behaviors when working with customers and fellow staff members. | |
| Additional Requirements: |
1. Positions involved in asbestos abatement activities will be expected to meet
Certification requirements established by the State of Wisconsin. Course work
and passing an examination is part of the certification requirement. Must be
renewed annually. Must meet and maintain physical requirements and
recommendations for medical monitoring of asbestos workers. 2. Must have the ability to wear a respirator and specialized clothing. 3. Must have a valid Wisconsin Driver's license. 4. Must have ability to work from aerial truck. 5. Must be able to perform physical labor required in the performance of normal carpenter duties including: A. Lifting a minimum of 75 lbs. B. Bending from the waist repeatedly as in nailing studs to a plate lying on a deck. C. Work with arms extended above the head for at least one minute at a time. D. Stooping by bending at the knees as often as necessary to perform tasks. E. Twisting at the waist at least 90 degrees. F. Performing duties while standing on a ladder. G. Climbing and working at reasonable heights. 6. This position may occasionally be asked to work hours in excess of the normal work shift. SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Completion of an apprenticeship approved by the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations as a Carpenter, or formal recognition of status by the appropriate international or local trade organization or some type of similar formal validation of journey level status may also be accepted. Persons having informal training and experience equivalent to the formal apprentice-ship and journey level status may also be accepted upon submission of documented proof of such training and experience. | |
