| Job Summary: |
Performs general animal husbandry duties in assigned areas of responsibility
under the close supervision of the area Laboratory Technical Support Supervisor
with oversight and guidance by lead workers. These duties include, but are not
limited to feeding and watering animals, monitoring animal room environments,
cleaning primary and secondary enclosures, receiving animals, transporting
animals, restraining and handling animals, reporting sick and injured animals,
general facility maintenance and housekeeping, and cagewash operations. ART
positions interact with instigators and veterinary staff as required. Other
duties as assigned. The LAR animal husbandry facilities are tuberculosis-free (TB-free) areas. The incumbent is expected to: practice health and safety rules and precautions necessary to maintain animal health by following written and verbal rules and instructions regarding safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and observe standard operating procedures concerning sanitation, movement of equipment and materials and waste disposal in order to prevent transfer of infectious biological organisms or contamination with hazardous chemicals. | |

| Additional Requirements: | Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs. required. Ability to walk and stand on feet for long periods of time required. Ability to work some weekends and holidays as required. Must be Tuberculosis (TB) negative, submit to periodic TB testing, and submit to a chest x-ray if a positive TB test is read. | |
