Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Six to eight years professional experience required; experience in communications, development, marketing or public relations strongly preferred.
Principal duties:
(15%) Supervise Individual and Family Membership Program
-Develop and implement practices to
broaden and diversify the museum's member base, to communicate effectively with members to retain
their loyalty, and to graduate members to escalating levels of annual, as well as capital and
endowment support.
-Evaluate performance of the Museum's membership and outreach programs on an
ongoing basis with attention to cost-effectiveness; diversity and demographics of visitors, donors
and program participants; retention and growth among member and donor pools; and the Museum's
public profile as measured by visitation, media citations, website usage, and survey
data.
-Oversee the management of member appreciation events and public programs throughout the
year including exhibition openings.
(30%) Manage Corporate Membership
Program
-Design and implement a new corporate membership program, initially targeting
businesses in the immediate region with the goal of building durable, long-term relationships with
partners in the business sector with appropriately structured membership levels and
benefits.
-Develop and maintain close working relationships with relevant organizations such as
business associations and chambers of commerce to enhance awareness of the Museum and its corporate
membership program.
(10%) Manage Volunteer Organization
-Create and manage a
structured volunteer program to support Museum programs and operations based upon research into
successful examples of museum volunteer programs.
(20%) Manage Community and Constituent
Relations
-Develop, in consultation with the Director, a multi-year marketing and outreach
plan targeting key constituencies and including timetables, quantifiable goals, budgets, and
evaluation criteria.
-Represent the Museum in routine interaction with the media and with
external organizations.
-Develop and implement a media and marketing plan for promotion of the
Museum's planned expansion, working with the Director, the Editor, and the architectural team as
appropriate.
-Manage all aspects of the planning, hosting and follow-up of special events and
programs at the Museum including public outreach and fundraising activities.
-Manage policies
for use of Museum space by external organizations, ensuring that space use and rental furthers the
Museum's own educational and outreach objectives.
-Keep abreast of the public and community
professional involvements of the Director and of other members of the Museum staff as these
activities support the Museum's outreach objectives, helping to maximize the coordinated impact of
those individual efforts.
(20%) Manage Development Program
-Develop and manage a
comprehensive fundraising plan featuring tiered targets for numbers of donors at various giving
levels, benchmarks for fundraising performance through the year, and mechanisms for reporting
fundraising progress.
-Continually consult with the Director and with staff of the UW
Foundation on progress in identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects for both
annual and capital fundraising campaigns.
( 5%) General Management and
Administration
-Provide all manner of management and administrative support to these
functions, keeping abreast of techniques, technologies and resources on campus and from the
professional
field.
Additional Information:
This position requires vision, capacity to develop and manage medium- to long-range
strategies, and creative initiative. It also requires a sophisticated capacity to network and to
interact effectively and purposefully with specialized, often high-level external audiences
including the media, donors, and corporate
executives.
