Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health, Public Health or related Biological Sciences.

License/certification:

Wisconsin Sanitarian Registration or Wisconsin approved.
National Environmental Health Professional Certificate or eligible to write examination within two years.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

6 months - 1 year (internship, independent study and volunteer experience will be considered).

Principal duties:

-Conduct performance certification testing of biological safety hoods, laminar flow hoods,
clean rooms, and other containment systems used in research, clinical and diagnostic
laboratories on campus; and assist in the maintenance, research and development of
these highly specialized systems.
-Evaluate health risks associated with campus foodservice operations, swimming pools, and
beaches by means of inspection, problem investigation, sampling and data analysis; and
consult with respective facility/departmental managers in developing wellness enhancing
strategies and implementing risk reduction controls.
-Participate in epidemiological investigations of suspected/confirmed food and water-borne
illnesses occuring on campus, and provide assistance to University Health Services clinical
staff in communicable and infectious disease control.
-Assist in conducting chemical exposure monitoring, microbiological air monitoring and
evaluation of ventilation systems to assess student exposure to hazardous materials in
classrooms and laboratories.
-Assist in providing instruction to students assigned internships with the Environmental Health
Program and students conducting clinical rotations with University Health Services.

Additional Information:
